Tell us a little about yourself?
I’ve lived in Las Cruces for 5 years. I am married with 2 grown daughters and 2 grandchildren. I have a blast teaching Fit For Life at DDCF, and I volunteer at Mesilla Valley Hospice. I have been a runner and cyclist most of my life, but I have always enjoyed lifting weights. I am so glad I found a box and a community to enjoy working out with.
How long have you been with us at DDCF and what made you walk in these doors?
I on-ramped with Kelsey in October, 2018, but started coming consistently at the New Years eve workout. (started those resolutions early!) My oldest daughter introduced me to CrossFit in Louisiana. She took me along for a workout and I loved everything about it; the gym, the workout and most importantly, the people. I googled DDCF and when I got back from Louisiana the rest was history.
Do you remember your first workout and how you felt after?
Oh yeah… 5 rounds of 100 barbell facing burpees. Ok, that’s not really true, it just frickin felt like it!! It was something like 3 rounds of 50 pushups, 400m run and 25 toes to bar and it crushed me. Dragged my butt home, probably took a nap and came back for more the next day!
If you could design the perfect workout for yourself what would it be?
Any kind of long chipper. This ol’ girl doesn’t have the gears she used to have. You know, like when your skips for height look the same as your skips for distance. A 30min AMRAP of 800m run, 15 deadlifts and 50 ab mat situps would be right in my wheel house.
What animal best represents you today?
This one stumped me, so I consulted my youngest daughter. She thought maybe and Orangutan because they live in warm environments (I love the heat) their relationships with their young is one of the strongest in nature and I am very close to my girls and grandchildren, they are strong, but most importantly, they can get TOES TO BAR, just like me! haha
If you could pick the perfect song to listen during the best workout of your life what would it be?
I’m an old rock and roll girl and one of my favorite workout songs is Billy Squier’s “Everybody wants you.” The beat is great for an up-tempo run or workout.
What is your favorite movement or Olympic lift? Least favorite?
Back squat is probably my favorite. Push jerk is my least favorite.
What is one fun fact that we may not know about you?
I once rowed a marathon, 26.2 miles on a Concept 2 rower. Took me a little over 3 hours. Why you might ask? Because Concept 2 will send you a very cool free beer mug if you send them your results. I love that beer mug, but in reality, I love all beer mugs!
Outside of Crossfit what is one of your favorite hobbies or things to do?
I love to cycle with my husband. We basically use our bikes to get from one restaurant/pub to the next. You know like ride a few miles to Chala’s for breakfast, ride a few more miles, stop at the Bea for coffee, ride a few more miles back to Spotted Dog for peanuts, beer and lunch and then Bosque for more beer, just for more strength to get back home. Perfect day!
What is your proudest Crossfit moment?
Getting my toes to bar on a recent GOAT day with Nathalie!
There are truly no words that can explain what DDCF has meant to me! I had worked out a gym in Las Cruces for several years, but never felt connected to anyone at the gym. Walking into DDCF I knew the culture was different immediately. Jeremy, Julie, Kelsey, Jessica and Nathalie are phenomenal coaches and caring people and I am so grateful to go to each and every class. From them flows the friendly nature of the gym, and I feel more connected to the people at this box than I have at any other gym I have ever been to. From my heart, I just want to say Thank you!
As for the future, I have oodles of goals. Got to mark toes to bar off that list, now if I could just get that ONE strict pull-up.
