If you ever see Brian, he ALWAYS has a smile on his face. He came into CrossFit just wanting to get stronger and healthier and boy has he done that. Not only is he always cheering everyone on and giving high fives constantly, he is also always wanting to learn and be better. He is safe on his lifts and always strives to find the right stimulus in the workout. He is by far the best listener in the 6:30 am class! He comes to class excited, and always leaves accomplished (and always leaves something, water bottles, jackets…)
As he gets ready for a new baby, we just wanted to recognize him for being such a positive and fun part of our community!
I was born and raised here in Las Cruces. I love to cook, and actually spent 15 years doing it professionally in San Francisco and New Orleans. By chance I moved back home just 3 months before hurricane Katrina and have been here ever since. Now I work with my family, we develop and manage apartment complexes all over the state, and I am our construction and maintenance supervisor. I have a lovely wife, two kid’s and one on the way (like any minute now)!
How long have you been with us at DDCF and what made you walk in these doors?
I think I started in August of 2017. My brother and sister in law started at the beginning of 2017, they always talked about how great it was and encouraged me to try it out. Now I just wish I would have started sooner!
I remember my first night of Fundamentals. Julie coached, and we did about 100 squats, walking the next day was hilarious! I also remember one of my first WOD’s that had a 50 ab-mat sit ups portion. I couldn’t complete the sit ups and I was so upset with myself. I stomped around the gym like a toddler at a pity party! It seems so silly now, things sure have changed!
All the running, body weight stuff! It’s the only time I can (almost) keep up with the big dogs!

Favorite is the Snatch. There is so much to it, I’ve got a long way to go to be proficient, but I think it’s fun!
Least favorite is the Overhead Squat. My shoulders hate it. It’s my kryptonite.
I live in a 100 year old home that was built by Ralph Willis Goddard. He brought radio to the Southwest and was the Dean of the Engineering Department at NMSU. The Engineering College is named after him and so are the call letters for NMSU’s radio station, KRWG. I am constantly upgrading and remodeling the house and do most of the work on my own, including adding a carport and building new stairs to the second floor. We love the charm of the old hardwood floors, and the antique hardware and fixtures.
I love exploring the Organ Mountains, they never cease to amaze me. Every step closer to the granite walls brings a new view and perspective. One of my favorite hikes is to the Needle and I’m planning to get up the Organ Peak trail in the next couple of weeks. Let me know if you want to join us!
My first bar muscle up was so cool, I couldn’t quite believe I made it up there, but the thing I’m most proud of is the community that DDCF represents. It’s what keeps me coming back. I love how inclusive we are, not just as a gym, but as members and friends. Countless members have helped me improve my movements with caring advise, and there is never a lack of encouragement or congratulations for hard work and a job well done. The support of the coaching staff is impeccable. Jeremy always has a good suggestion for body positioning and weight scaling. Julie knows exactly how to work out the aches and pains. Jess is like a well-oiled precision machine with deep knowledge and a caring disposition. And Kelsey, oh girl, you know you’re my fav! You work hard at being the best coach you can be, and at being the best YOU, you can be, and it shows. I can always count on a friendly smile and a swift kick in the butt when I need it!
I’ve got a second little family at DDCF, and I’m honored to be chosen as the member of the month. Thank you!
