Micros and Macros………..
Ok so last time we talked a bit about what is good nutrition and the difference between Macro-nutrients and Micro-nutrients. So good nutrition means that we are getting the correct amount of Macro-nutrients filled up with enough micro-nutrients (vitamins and minerals we need).
That means that IFFYM (if it fits your macros), it’s the best choice for that balance of nutrition we are looking for for ultimate health and performance.
Good nutrition is getting enough protein from quality meats. By quality meat I mean finding meat that has come from and fed from as close to it’s natural habitat as possible, like wild caught fish, wild game if possible, quality grass fed beef and free range poultry. By focusing on these the meats we get will have a better balance as nature has intended.
Veggies, get all kinds, all colors and all shapes. The more colorful the better, be adventurous, try them steamed, grilled or raw. Try them in salads and soups. There are so many options, I could go on for days. Did you know that different vegetables have different bio-availability by how they are prepared? That is a whole other discussion.
Fruits, try them all. Berries and Bananas have the most fiber for your buck so try to get those in as much as possible cuz we all need the fiber!
Spices. Use them generously, pepper is a natural antioxidant, cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar, ginger and turmeric are ant-inflammatory, oregano has antibacterial properties as well as garlic. These are all reasons to get excited about cooking and meal prep. If you are bored, try a new spice this week. Try a new veggie, try a new way to cook something you haven’t tried before.
I recently started poaching my fish. I LOVE IT! It comes out so moist and tender, just delicious.
This week I poached some halibut (new for me). It is very meaty fish, yet kinda flaky. I let it sit with some coconut/sunflower oil, orange zest and 2 drops of DoTerra wild orange oil, a teaspoon of honey, and some red chili flakes and some ancho chili powder. It was yummy for our tummies 🙂
The photo today is all that is left!
Cheers…. Happy healthy eating!
