ABOUT DESERT DEVIL CROSSFIT
JEREMY HALE OWNER/CROSSFIT TRAINER
I discovered CrossFit during a deployment in 2007 in a Men’s Health magazine article. When I returned home to Las Cruces, New Mexico, I talked my wife Juliet into trying the workouts with me. We were so impressed by the way these simple workouts, performed at high intensity, could produce incredible results.
I have competed in local, Las Cruces competitions as well as in Olympic lifting. I placed and set the record in New Mexico Masters division in the Snatch and overall total in the 105 class.
Through all of this, I’ve found a passion for helping others discover an inner-strength they didn’t know they had, how to work smarter not harder, and how to develop weaknesses into strengths.
Here’s a little bit more about my fitness background:
- 22 year Air Force veteran
- 27 years of weight-lifting experience
- CrossFit level 1 2012
- CrossFit Gymnastics 2013
- USAW level 1 Sports Performance 2014
- CrossFit level 2 2015

I was never an athletic person. When my husband came back from a deployment eager to try this new CrossFit workout, it was a rude awakening and a surprising challenge.
The diversity of the workouts is what kept me coming back. Doing things I never dreamed of, like Olympic lifting and pull ups, I developed the desire to help others who likewise never thought they could do such things. Nurturing and training my Las Cruces clients who never believe they could be an athlete, is what drives me to be the best it coach and teacher I can be.
With a background in massage therapy, I’ve learned the importance of developing good recovery habits and maintaining a balanced outlook on health and wellness. I do my best to maintain a positive, yet productive atmosphere for all who walk into our Las Cruces gym.

Growing up I have always been an active kid. I started playing soccer as my first team sport from about the ages 4 to 8, around the time my parents started take an interest in CrossFit. Later on, I discovered and trained in martial arts where I learned about parkour and freerunning. As my parents participation in CrossFit grew so did my interest for the sport. When I was 14 my parents convinced me to compete in my first CrossFit competition. From there I learned that CrossFit would not only benefit my parkour and martial arts training but also my mental toughness.
CrossFit and parkour have taught me that if I really want to do something, I can do it with enough practice and dedication. There is no obstacle I can not defeat.
Through CrossFit and parkour I have developed great body awareness as well as learned how to coach other athletes in CrossFit especially with the gymnastics movements. When my parents opened Desert Devil CrossFit in April 2015 I decided to get my level 1 and help coach thus becoming an official part of the Desert Devil Team.

I joined the Desert Devil Crossfit family in August 2016 as a recent transplant to Las Cruces from the Pacific Northwest. Julie and Jeremy must have noticed how much I hung around the gym because they asked if I would consider coaching, to which I immediately said “Yes!”
I found CrossFit through my brother, who started doing Crossfit.com workouts in 2011. I tried a few workouts and was blown away (I also had my first box jump wipeout.) As a former competitive swimmer and lacrosse player, I was itching for more than my gym routine– especially throwing around 5 pound dumbbells. But it took me 3 more years (and a friendly nudge) to join a box. My first workout was some burpees, situps, and running and it ROCKED. Since then, CrossFit has become my passion– I love the intensity, supportive community, and constant variation. There will never be a day that I master everything, which motivates me to keep coming back.
As a coach, I hold my Crossfit Level 1 certificate and find great joy in helping athletes achieve their fitness goals. With my background in athletics, I’ve learned that both a longevity mindset and having fun are paramount to wellness. I am honored to be a part of Desert Devil Crossfit coaching team.
